This time, I visited SBVA, a venture capital firm.
Formerly known as SoftBank Ventures, SBVA officially changed its name in June last year after being acquired by The Edge of from the SoftBank Group (SBG).
While the name has changed, SBVA continues to focus on finding and investing in promising private companies. Given their need to keep up with fast-changing markets while maintaining sharp analysis and accountability, I was curious to see the environment they work in.
Located in the heart of Gangnam, SBVA doesn’t publicly disclose its exact address. Since many companies are eager to receive their investment, some have shown up unexpectedly.
First Impressions of SBVA
Last year, SBVA rebranded with the help of Rsquare Design, creating a new logo. The updated logo features blue lighting, symbolizing their intent to lead in this new era of change. You can feel their determination, even in the logo design.
SBVA Lobby
The lobby is a mix of wood and neutral tones, giving it a calm and stable feel. At the same time, the layout and low sofas create an open and inviting atmosphere. It’s easy to see why the lobby is often called the face of the company.
In one corner of the lobby, there’s an island bar—perfect for enjoying a snack and casual conversation instead of sitting formally at a table.
Meeting Rooms: The Heart of SBVA
As a venture capital firm, SBVA’s meeting rooms are critical spaces for internal discussions and investor presentations. Different-sized meeting rooms are scattered throughout the office, tailored to the specific needs of each meeting.
The Largest Meeting Room
This room features a long table, almost like something you’d see in a large corporation. There’s a big screen for presentations and a clean, white table that brightens the space while adding a touch of formality.
From another angle, you can see the practical design with bench seating and whiteboards along the sides, maximizing functionality without sacrificing style.
Small Meeting Rooms
For more intimate meetings, SBVA has several smaller rooms. These spaces feel less formal and help create a more relaxed atmosphere.
One of the smaller meeting rooms feels particularly luxurious. With stylish lighting and a view of Gangnam, it’s the kind of place where ideas seem to flow more easily.
Main Hallway
The main hallway at SBVA is bright and filled with plants, adding a fresh touch. Open shelves separate the lobby from the corridor, defining the space while maintaining an open feel. These shelves are filled with meaningful decorations and books that reflect SBVA’s brand, adding both style and practicality.
Relaxation Space with a View
Finally, I’ll leave you with this view of Gangnam from SBVA’s relaxation area. It’s a space where employees can grab a coffee or do some light work while taking in the city below.
